Wirral Historic Vehicle Rally is a touring event which takes place in July each year and is a very popular assembly of pre-entered vehicles first manufactured prior to 31st December 1980.
The event normally attracts around eighty vehicles and all entries must be received before the 1st May to enable information to be published in a programme detailing the route, cars and owners which is distributed to the general public free of charge.
Posters detailing the Rally route are displayed in public buildings and various retail units for the public to view prior to the event. There is a nominal fee charged for vehicles entering the Rally to cover the administration costs.
Vehicles entered in the rally congregate at the start venue (The Red Fox Liverpool Road, Thornton Hough, CH64 7TL) from 9.00am and are available for viewing by the general public. The vehicles leave in small groups, starting at 10.30am, travelling along the route detailed in the programme/posters.
The vehicles congregate for a lunch stop (Carr Farm Garden Centre, Birkenhead Road, Meols CH47 9RE) from 11.30am where members of the public can again view the cars. At this stop the entrants’ vehicles are available for judging based on, vehicle presentation (exterior, interior and under the bonnet), period originality, display of vehicle information, occupants dress and accessories appropriate to the period of the vehicle.
From 1.30pm vehicles in small groups leave the lunch stop and resume the route in the programme to the finish show area (The Green, Neston Road Thornton Hough CH63 1JW) arriving at approximately 2.00pm where they are once again available for viewing by the public.
The Prize giving commences at 3.00pm with prizes awarded for:
Best Older Vehicle Best Post War Vehicle and Best Later Vehicle.
Certificates are also presented for Excellence, with special prizes for the vehicle chosen by the Lord Mayor and “The Manager’s choice” given by the Manager of The Red Fox, with another Award presented to the person judged to have the best period costume. The Blair Percival Trophy is awarded to a Club Member who has supported the event enthusiastically.
